What is a Keto diet?

heart healthy foodsMany of you know that I’m a huge advocate of high fat, low carbohydrate eating. Sometimes we even eat ketosis as a family.

So what is the keto diet?

As human beings, we rely on glucose and glycogen as an energy source to run our bodies. Now, if we deplete our entire system of these two sources, we use fat as energy. To get into ketosis, we need to have a high-fat, moderate protein, low carbohydrate way of eating. We want to aim for 50 grams or less of carbohydrates per day. Even better, 20 grams or less per day will really get into that fat-burning mode of ketosis.
