It’s time to live well.

“If we could all live happy and healthy lives…why wouldn’t we?”

Look, we all know change can be a tough pill to swallow. But maybe it’s time we re-evaluated our love affair with drugs. It’s easy to pop a few and subdue the pain for a few hours, but is that what our bodies really need?

At AWAKEN Chiropractic Wellness, we believe feeling alive and healthy should be considered normal, not the exception. To get there, we need a cultural shift in how people understand pain treatment. 

That starts by understanding that the functions of the body are innate, designed to operate in a certain way. That makes every choice we make in life important - we are either giving our body what it needs, or we’re interfering with its program. 

So – what are the fundamentals for optimal body functioning?


1. Eat Well

The Diet Delusion… The Starch Solution… Grain Brain… Fat Chance… There’s a sea of information within the field of nutrition out there – some facts, some fads. The challenge is to harness it to make important decisions on how to help our bodies operate as they’re designed for. To point you in the right direction, we believe the key is to eat “real” foods – food that has not been processed and is as close to its natural state as possible.


2. Move Well

Let’s look at our lives now. We’ve progressively become less active, placing our species in a position that is less than optimal. Daily stressors like driving, sitting at desks, working on computers and watching TV have the potential to contribute to less mobility. Yet optimal movement is required for an optimal life. For example, breathing requires optimal movement of the ribcage, expansion and contraction of the diaphragm and optimal spinal mobility to best fulfil our requirement for oxygen. We should be moving moderately for at least 30 minutes a day. That means you should be able to talk to people while walking, but not sing.


3. Think Well

Ignorance is not bliss. We know thought is required for an optimal life because we must learn in order to thrive in our world. Simply not understanding something does not absolve us of its consequence – for better or worse. We need to understand concepts and get a grasp of how things function in the world for us to function optimally in it. We believe in developing a Conscious Philosophy, a framework for dealing with reality. It’s important to constantly re-evaluate what you believe to be true about the world to foster health of the mind (aka self esteem). Change your mind, change your life. That advice alone is priceless, but there’s so much more to talk about - we look forward to sharing our thoughts with you. 


4. Sleep Well

Sleep plays a vital role in good health and wellbeing throughout your life. Getting enough quality sleep at the right times can help protect your mental and physical health, quality of life and safety. The way you feel while you're awake depends in part on what happens while you're not. During sleep, your body is working to support healthy brain function and maintain your physical health. The damage from sleep deficiency can occur in an instant (such as a car crash), or it can harm you over time. For example, ongoing sleep deficiency can raise your risk for some chronic health problems. It can also affect how well you think, react, work, learn and get along with others.

  • Get 7-8 hours of good sleep
  • Buy a good pillow and mattress
  • Find your optimal sleeping position.
